COMMERCIAL BUILDING REHABILITATION
VERTICAL AND REAR ADDITION
BRONX, NEW YORK
This commercial property is a former NYC Public Library which has since relocated. The client wished to maximize the total allowable building area per NYC Zoning regulations while maintaining the existing structure for leasable commercial space. Therefore, an additional two floors above the existing single story along with a three story rear addition was designed. The building’s new façade is comprised of a decorative rain screen cladding system designed so that the colored pattern moves around the building’s fenestration. The new main entrance and elevator is represented at the exterior with a curtain wall spanning the entire building height. All exterior storefronts are ultra-thermal systems for maximum insulating efficiency.
